CCNSG Safety Passport Courses

Need a CCNSG card for site access?

If a site, employer or contractor has asked you for a CCNSG Safety Passport, you are probably preparing to work on an engineering construction, industrial, maintenance, shutdown or contractor-controlled site.

For many workers, the CCNSG card is something they need before they can start. It shows that you have completed recognised safety passport training and have a basic understanding of the health and safety standards expected on site.

CPTS can help you find the right CCNSG course, whether you are applying for your first card, renewing an existing passport, looking at the online renewal route, or booking CCNSG Leading a Team Safely training.

The important part is booking the right course. The names can sound similar, but the route you need depends on your current card status.

If you have never held a CCNSG card, the usual route is the 2-day National Course.

If your old card has expired, you will normally need the National Course again.

If your card is still valid and close to expiry, you may be able to use the 1-day Renewal Course or the Online Renewal option.

If you supervise people on site, the Leading a Team Safely course may be more suitable.

A quick call before booking can save time, especially if you are close to your expiry date or unsure which course your employer has asked for.

If you are unsure which course applies to you, contact CPTS before booking. We can help you check the right CCNSG training route based on your card status and expiry date.

Which CCNSG course should I book?

The easiest way to choose is to check your card first.

No card? You will usually need the National Course.

Card expired? In most cases, that also means the National Course.

Card still valid but due to run out soon? Look at renewal.

Already leading people or moving into a supervisory role? Leading a Team Safely may be the course your employer is asking for.

This is where people often get caught out. Someone searches for CCNSG renewal, but their card has already expired. At that point, the renewal route may no longer apply.

CCNSG Site Safety Passport National Course – 2 Days

The CCNSG Site Safety Passport National Course is the standard route for people who need a CCNSG Safety Passport for the first time.

It is also the course normally taken by candidates whose previous card has expired. So, if you have found an old card in your wallet and the expiry date has passed, this is probably the course you need rather than a renewal.

The National course is commonly booked by workers going onto engineering construction sites, power stations, petrochemical sites, shutdown projects, maintenance work, oil and gas sites, renewable energy projects and industrial contractor sites.

It may be the right option if you:

  • do not currently hold a CCNSG card
  • have an expired card
  • have been asked for an ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport
  • need a recognised site safety passport before starting work
  • are new to engineering construction or industrial site work

Duration: 2 days
Best for: New applicants and expired card holders

CCNSG Site Safety Passport Renewal Course – 1 Day

The CCNSG Site Safety Passport Renewal Course is for people who already hold a valid card and need to renew it before it runs out.

You may hear this called a CCNSG refresher course, CCNSG card renewal, CCNSG safety passport renewal or simply safety passport renewal. In practice, most people are looking for the same thing: a way to keep their card valid without having to sit the full 2-day course again.

Timing matters here. If your passport is still valid, you may be able to renew. If it has already expired, you will normally need to go back through the National Course.

This course is usually suitable if:

  • your CCNSG card is still valid
  • your expiry date is coming up
  • your employer has asked you to renew your card
  • you prefer classroom-based refresher training
  • you need to keep your site access up to date

Duration: 1 day
Best for: Existing valid card holders

CCNSG Site Safety Passport Online Renewal – 2 Hours

The CCNSG Site Safety Passport Online Renewal is a shorter option for eligible candidates who already have a valid card.

This is not the full CCNSG Safety Passport course online. It is a renewal route. That distinction is important, because someone applying for their first card will normally need the National Course instead.

People often search for this as CCNSG online renewal, CCNSG renewal online, CCNSG safety passport renewal online, CCNSG refresher online or CCNSG online course.

The online route may suit you if your card is still valid, your renewal date is approaching and you are confident with the CCNSG safety content.

It may not be suitable if your card has already expired or if you need your first passport.

Duration: 2 hours
Best for: Eligible renewal candidates with a valid card

CCNSG Leading a Team Safely – 1 Day

CCNSG Leading a Team Safely is aimed at people who lead, supervise or manage others on site.

It is often taken by supervisors, chargehands, team leaders and workers moving into a role where they need to plan work, give instructions, communicate clearly and make sure a small team works safely.

This course is separate from the standard Safety Passport. It is more focused on leadership, planning and the extra responsibility that comes with supervising people in a site environment.

It may be suitable if you:

  • supervise workers on site
  • work as a team leader, chargehand or manager
  • plan or coordinate site activities
  • are responsible for safe working practices within a team
  • have been asked to complete CCNSG Leading a Team Safely

Duration: 1 day
Best for: Supervisors, team leaders, chargehands and managers

What is a CCNSG Safety Passport?

CCNSG stands for Client Contractor National Safety Group.

The CCNSG Safety Passport is a recognised health and safety card used across the UK engineering construction industry. Many sites ask for it before a worker is allowed to start work.

You may also see it described as a CCNSG card, CCNSG passport, site safety passport, ECITB safety passport, safety passport card or CCNSG site safety passport.

The wording changes, but the idea is simple: it helps show that you understand basic safety expectations before going onto site.

It does not replace a site induction. It also does not replace trade qualifications, plant tickets or job-specific training. Depending on your role, you may still need other certificates. But for many engineering construction and industrial sites, CCNSG is one of the main safety passport requirements

What does CCNSG training cover?

CCNSG training is based around practical site safety. It is not there to teach your trade. It is there to check that workers understand the safety standards expected in higher-risk workplaces.

Depending on the course route, training can cover topics such as:

  • health and safety responsibilities
  • hazard awareness and risk control
  • safe systems of work
  • permit to work procedures
  • manual handling
  • working at height
  • confined spaces
  • fire safety
  • personal protective equipment
  • emergency procedures
  • environmental awareness
  • safe behaviour and communication

The aim is straightforward. Before anyone walks onto site, they should understand the basic rules, know how to spot risk and know what is expected of them.

How long does a CCNSG Safety Passport last?

A CCNSG Safety Passport is normally valid for 3 years.

If you want to keep your card active, you need to renew it before it expires. Once the expiry date has passed, the usual renewal route may no longer be available.

This is one of the most common issues with CCNSG bookings. People search for CCNSG card renewal or CCNSG safety passport renewal, but then realise the card has already expired.

If your expiry date is coming up soon, it is worth checking your options early. Leaving it until the last minute can limit your choices.

CCNSG course near me

A lot of candidates search for a CCNSG course near me because they need training that fits around work, travel and site start dates.

CPTS can help you look for suitable CCNSG training options based on your location, course type and preferred dates. This can include help with searches for:

  • CCNSG safety passport near me
  • CCNSG training near me
  • CCNSG renewal near me
  • CCNSG safety passport course near me
  • safety passport course near me
  • ECITB safety passport near me

Availability depends on the course, area and date. If you have been given a deadline by your employer, tell us when you enquire. That way we can help you look for the most suitable route.

For companies, group bookings may also be available depending on candidate numbers, location and course type.

CCNSG course prices and cost

The cost of a CCNSG course depends on the course type, location, date and whether you are booking one place or several candidates.

A 2-day CCNSG National Course will usually have a different price from a 1-day Renewal Course. The 2-hour Online Renewal is different again, and Leading a Team Safely is priced as a separate course.

When comparing prices, make sure you are comparing the same course. A CCNSG online course price will not normally match a classroom-based National Course, and a renewal course is not the same as a first-time safety passport course.

We can help with:

  • CCNSG Safety Passport price enquiries
  • CCNSG Safety Passport cost information
  • CCNSG course price checks
  • CCNSG course cost for individuals
  • CCNSG card cost and renewal options
  • CCNSG online course price enquiries
  • group booking prices for companies

For an accurate price, send us your location, the course you need and whether your current card is still valid.

Why book your CCNSG course through CPTS?

People often contact us because they know they need “CCNSG”, but they are not sure which version to book. That is understandable. The course names are similar, and the rules around renewal are not always obvious until you check the card date.

CPTS can help you work out the right route before you commit to a booking.

We can help with individual bookings, company bookings, renewal questions, expired cards, course availability and nearby dates.

The process is simple: tell us what you have been asked for, where you are based and whether you already have a card. We will help you take the next step from there.

CCNSG courses for individuals and companies

We help individual workers who need a CCNSG card for a job, as well as companies arranging training for employees, contractors or site teams.

For individual bookings, the most useful information is your location, the course you need and whether you already hold a valid card.

For company bookings, it helps to know how many candidates need training, which course they need, whether any of them are renewing, and how quickly the training is required.

Do not worry if you do not have every detail ready. Send us what you know and we will help you work through the options.
