Working in High-Risk Course

High-Risk Confined Spaces Training Across the UK

Some jobs take you into places you’d rather not go – dark, tight, sometimes dangerous. In high-risk confined spaces, there’s no room for mistakes. That’s exactly why this training exists.

At Construction and Plant Training Services, we help people across the UK work safely in the spaces most wouldn’t want to step into. Based in the East Midlands, we deliver our high-risk confined spaces training both locally and nationwide – wherever you are, we can come to you.

Who’s this for?

If you ever find yourself inside a tank, down a shaft, or beneath a manhole cover with a harness and a radio, this course probably applies to you. It’s made for those who:

  • go in, supervise, or rescue from confined spaces,
  • are responsible for others working in those environments,
  • need to meet legal safety requirements for their role.

It’s especially useful for teams in water, construction, heavy engineering, and utilities – anyone working around places with limited access and plenty of risk.

What you’ll actually learn on High Risk Confined Space Course

This isn’t a read-from-the-book type course. Across three days, you’ll get hands-on and into real scenarios. It’s practical, it’s focused, and it’s designed to help you stay safe – and keep others safe – when things get serious.

You’ll cover:

  • Spotting danger before it becomes a problem
  • Setting up safe entry and exit procedures
  • Using kit properly (masks, monitors, tripod systems, breathing gear)
  • Knowing who’s where and when – comms are key
  • Running drills so you’re not guessing in an emergency
  • Following the law – and knowing where you stand

No fluff. Just what you need, taught by people who’ve done it for real.

What makes us a bit different?

We’re not new at this. Our trainers have been underground, in tanks, and in situations that were more than just theoretical. So when we say the training’s practical, we mean it.

  • You won’t just sit and listen – you’ll do.
  • We use real equipment, real scenarios, and real stories.
  • Based in the East Midlands, but we travel anywhere in the UK.
  • Fully in line with UK confined space regulations.
  • Recognised certification when you pass.

We train people to handle tough spaces. Simple as that.

FAQ – High Risk Confined Space Course

How long does the course take?

It runs over three days. You’ll be in both the classroom and practical spaces – it’s a full-on, hands-on programme. By the end, you’ll know exactly what to do if something goes wrong in a confined space.

Is this course only for people who go into confined spaces?

Not at all. It’s ideal for anyone involved – whether you’re climbing in, standing by on the radio, or managing the job. Supervisors, rescue crews, or safety reps should take it too.

What actually counts as a high-risk confined space?

Think of places where you can’t easily get in or out – and where things like gas, flooding, or lack of oxygen can turn risky fast. Tanks, tunnels, chambers under roads – all of these count if they pose real hazards.

Do I legally need training to go into these spaces?

Yes, you do. If there’s serious risk involved, UK law says you must be trained and competent. This course gets you there and gives you a certificate to prove it.

Where do you run the training?

We’re based in the East Midlands, but we cover the whole of the UK. You can come to us, or we’ll come to you – whichever works best.

Will I be using real gear?

Absolutely. Tripods, gas detectors, breathing kits – we don’t just talk about them, we train you to use them properly, under pressure, like you would on site.

How much does it cost?

That depends. Got a full team? You’ll likely get a better rate. Drop us a line with your location and numbers – we’ll give you a proper quote, no guesswork.

Is the certificate recognised by employers?

Yes – we stick to UK standards and work with what sites actually require. If you’re working under CDM, HSE guidelines, or company policies, this qualification holds up.
