Enquire nowSupervising work in confined spaces comes with real responsibility. Even when you’re not the one entering, the role of managing operations from outside is vital. This course gives you the tools and knowledge to take on that job safely and effectively.
We run the Level 2 Award in Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces (Top Person) from our site in Wellingborough, with the option to bring the training to your location anywhere in the UK.
If you’re in charge of others working in confined spaces, but you won’t be entering yourself, this course is designed for you. That includes:
It’s particularly suited to anyone acting as the ‘Top Person’ – the one making sure that everyone follows safe procedures before, during and after work in a confined space.
Over two days, you’ll learn what defines a medium-risk confined space, what the law says about working in them, and what your responsibilities are when overseeing such work. You’ll also get hands-on practice with equipment like gas monitors and communication systems.
Here’s what we cover:
The training mixes classroom time with real-world tasks, so you’ll walk away confident in applying what you’ve learned.
The course includes a written element and practical checks. There’s no final exam – instead, your instructor will observe how you apply what you’ve been taught.
When you finish the course successfully, you’ll be awarded the Level 2 Award in Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces (Top Person – Non‑Entrant). This certificate is accepted by employers across sectors like construction, water, telecoms and energy.
We’ve worked with contractors, councils, engineers and maintenance teams across the country. From our base in Wellingborough, we’ve helped hundreds of people get qualified to work with confined spaces the right way.

Nope. You’re staying on the outside. It’s all about making sure the people going in are doing it safely – you’re the one keeping things under control from the top.
It’s not the worst kind, but still risky. Things like gas, poor airflow, or tricky access. You don’t need breathing gear, but you do need proper systems in place.
Not really. As long as your job involves supervising or signing off confined space work, you’ll be fine. We’ll walk you through the rest.
It’s the person running the show from outside. You check the kit, handle the paperwork, keep in touch with the team inside, and make sure everyone sticks to the rules.
Three years. Then you’ll need to renew – simple as that.
We’ve got a training centre in Wellingborough, but we also run this course at other sites across the UK. If you’ve got a team, we can come to you.
You’ll be shown how to handle gas monitors, comms, PPE – all the things you’d be checking as the person in charge. It’s hands-on, not just theory.
It meets all the UK regs, including HSE guidance and the Confined Spaces Regs. It’s a recognised qualification – no fluff.
Absolutely. Loads of teams do it that way. Just tell us when and where, and we’ll sort it.
