FAQ – Level 3 Entrant Controller Confined Space – High Risk Confined Space Training

What does “Entrant and Entry Controller” actually mean?

In simple terms: the Entrant is the person going into the confined space, and the Entry Controller is the one managing the whole process – safety checks, comms, and overall coordination. This course covers both roles, which is ideal if you do a bit of each or need to step in where needed.

Do I really need Level 3 for confined space work?

If you’re working in or overseeing high-risk spaces – the kind with serious hazards like toxic gas, deep drops, or limited rescue access – then yes. Level 3 training is designed exactly for that. Lower-level courses won’t cover what you need in those situations.

Is this training legally required in the UK?

You won’t find “Level 3” written into law – but what is required is competence. If you’re expected to work or lead safely in high-risk spaces, then this course is one of the best ways to prove you’re qualified.

What equipment will I use during training?

We train with the real stuff: breathing apparatus, tripods, harnesses, gas detectors, comms kits – all of it. You’ll get hands-on practice using the kit you’ll see on actual sites, under realistic conditions.

Can I take this course if I’ve never done confined space work before?

It’s best suited for those with some basic experience – especially since it covers high-risk scenarios. That said, we’ll walk you through every step and support you throughout. Not sure? Contact us first and we’ll guide you.

Where is this course delivered?

We run it from our East Midlands centre, but we can also deliver it on-site anywhere in the UK. If you’ve got a team to train, we’ll bring everything to you.

How long is the training and what do I get at the end?

The course lasts three days, full-time. At the end, you’ll receive a Level 3 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces (Entrant & Entry Controller) – a certificate recognised across UK industry.

How often do I need to refresh this training?

Most companies ask staff to renew their training every 1–3 years, depending on how often you work in high-risk spaces. We offer refresher options too – just ask.
