FAQ – Medium-Risk Confined Space Training

What is a medium-risk confined space?

Any enclosed spot where bad air, fire, flooding or another sudden hazard could appear. Because of that possibility, you go in with escape breathing gear while someone stays outside to keep watch.

Is this course officially recognised?

It is. You leave with the City & Guilds 6160-09 Level 2 Award for both entrant and entry-controller roles – well known across construction, utilities and facilities maintenance.

How long does the card stay valid?

Three years. Before it expires you simply book a short refresher or repeat the course to keep your record current.

Do I need previous confined-space experience?

No. New starters learn the basics; seasoned hands sharpen what they already know. All you need is to be fit for work and ready to get involved.

What does the two-day schedule look like?

Mornings mix quick classroom chats with kit demos. Afternoons are hands-on: gas testing, controlled entries, radio comms and rescue drills inside the training rig.

What gear will I handle?

Escape sets, four-gas monitors, full-body harnesses, tripods, winches, lifelines and two-way radios – the very kit you’ll use on site.

Will the course explain my legal duties?

Yes. We break down the Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 in plain English and show you how to write permits, risk assessments and emergency plans that pass inspection.

Does the certificate let me act as the top-person entry controller?

It does. You’ll be signed off to log entries, track gas readings and take charge if things head south.
