You’ll cover both theory and practical training: how to operate different types of hoists safely, carry out pre-use and running checks, understand legal requirements and signals, handle loads and emergencies, and work within safety limits.
It’s designed for both. Novices get full training + practical work; experienced people may follow a shorter or test-only route, depending on prior experience.
You’ll need to pass both a theory test and a practical test. When successful, you will receive a Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, valid for two years.
Yes. You’ll need photographic ID, suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and in many cases you must have passed a Health & Safety (HSE) test (or similar) within the past two years. Some providers also ask for basic English skills.
Duration depends on your experience. Novice route courses typically take 2-3 days; experienced or refresher routes may be shorter. The Red CPCS card is valid for 2 years.
