First Aid Appointed Person Training Course

First Aid Appointed Person Training

Appointed persons are vital within a business. While they’re not responsible for administering first aid – that’s a job for trained first aiders – they are responsible for ensuring first aiders can carry out their role effectively.

We offer a detailed appointed person first aid course, allowing you to fully understand this critical role and carry it out to a high standard. If you want to learn more about our first aid appointed person training, please get in touch today.

If you’re looking to become a first aider in your workplace rather than an appointed person, please take a look at our first aid at work course instead.

What’s Included Within First Aid Appointed Person Training?

Our first aid appointed person training doesn’t contain any practical first aid. Instead, it focuses more on the logistics of first aid, looking at topics like:

  • Ensuring a workplace has sufficient first aid supplies
  • Correctly recording medical incidents occurring at work
  • Calling for assistance quickly and correctly
  • Recognising signs of specific medical emergencies
  • Understanding responsibilities under UK First Aid Regulations (1981)
  • Managing a situation until a trained first aider arrives

You’ll also gain an understanding of what you can’t do, as appointed persons are not trained first aiders. This means they are not qualified to treat injuries themselves.

Who Is This Course For?

An appointed person is required in any business where having trained first aiders is not a legal requirement. This includes low-risk businesses, such as retail units and offices, with fewer than 25 employees and high-risk businesses, such as construction, with fewer than five employees.

Our appointed persons course is open to any member of the team, regardless of seniority. There is no need for any prior knowledge of first aid or any other topic. The only requirement is that the student is aged 16 or over.

How Our Appointed Person First Aid Course Works

Our appointed persons course runs for half a day, either in the morning or the afternoon. You can attend in person or join online with a live instructor, meaning it’s accessible to everyone in the UK. It’s also available on-site for groups.

While there is theory to understand, we break the half-day up with practical demonstrations and group input. This approach promotes learning and encourages retention, making it a far more effective way to teach.

There’s no exam at the end of the course – instead, you’ll be assessed on your performance throughout the half-day. Upon completion, you’ll receive a certificate proving you have the knowledge needed to be an appointed person within a workplace. This certificate is valid for 3 years.
