Parent First Aid Course

Parent First Aid Course

Parenthood is the biggest responsibility many of us will ever have. And when faced with this responsibility, it’s essential to be prepared.

Our parent first aid course is designed to give parents insight into first aid for babies and small children, covering various topics and building their confidence to act calmly and correctly in an emergency.

If you’d like to learn more about our first aid for parents course – which is also suitable for other family members who look after children – please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Please note that this course is not recommended for professionals working with children. Instead, we’d recommend taking our paediatric first aid course, which is a more detailed look into first aid for children.

What You’ll Learn in Our Parent First Aid Course

Our parent first aid course covers a wide range of subjects, ensuring you have the knowledge needed in many situations. Some of the topics you’ll learn about include:

  • How to act when a child is not breathing or unresponsive
  • Giving CPR to a baby or child
  • Using an AED on a child
  • How to react if a child is choking
  • Dealing with burns, cuts, and minor injuries
  • Spotting signs of meningitis, febrile seizures, and allergic reactions
  • How to correctly place a child in the recovery position

During your parent first aid course, you won’t just learn the theory – you’ll also get plenty of opportunities for hands-on practice. Instructors will present real-life scenarios, giving you more confidence if you face similar situations.

How Does the Course Work?

Our parent first aid course is run over a day, with the class usually starting at 9:30 am and finishing at 4:30 pm. There will be opportunities for breaks throughout, including a lunch break.

We also offer our parent first aid course for study in the evenings – perfect for busy parents with no time during the day. Learn first aid over approximately 3 hours in one evening, alongside a small group. This evening course runs from Monday to Thursday, at venues nationwide.

You will join other parents also taking this course, giving you the chance to meet others in the same situation. It is also possible to arrange private classes for groups.

Once you’ve completed your first aid infant course, you’ll receive a certificate valid for 3 years. This certificate shows you’ve been trained to Ofsted and EYFS standards.
