What Will You Learn in the Course?
This online course follows the same syllabus as the regular, full-time SMSTS course. This ensures a well-rounded learning experience, encompassing all important workplace safety topics.
Some of the major topics you’ll study if you take our SMSTS course online 1 day a week include:
- Health and Safety at Work Act: What the act encompasses, what your legal duties are, and how you can ensure these duties are met.
- CDM Regulations: What CDM regulations are, what managers must do to meet them, and how you can plan for a safe working environment.
- High-Risk Work: Understand how to manage common high-risk activities, such as working at height, demolition, and working with electricity.
- Noise, Vibration, and Hazardous Substances: How to work within best practices and information on relevant regulations.
- Behavioural Safety and Communication: How to communicate effectively with team members and build a culture of safety in the workplace.
- Environmental Management: Minimising the creation of waste and reducing environmental harm.
At the end of your 5 days learning with us, you’ll need to take a short multiple-choice exam. Successful students will then receive their 5-year Site Safety Plus certificate, accredited by the CITB and accepted nationwide.

SMSTS Online Day Release FAQs
How is the online course taught?
The online course is conducted via Zoom. We’ll provide you with all the details for the training sessions before they start. You can access all course materials via our training portal.
Is the day release online course the same as the full-time, in-person course?
Yes, it is exactly the same. You’ll learn about all the same topics, to the same level of detail. You’ll then receive the same CITB-accredited qualification once you have successfully completed the course.
How will I receive learning materials?
All learning materials are available to download via our online portal. We will provide you with login details prior to the start of your course.
Is there an exam after the course?
Yes, there is an exam at the end of the course. It is multiple choice and has a pass mark of 81%. After you pass, you’ll receive your Site Safety Plus certificate.
Who should take this course?
This is a course for construction managers and those wanting to step up into a managerial role, who are looking to enhance their knowledge of construction safety but can’t commit to the full-time, in-person course.
