SMSTS Refresher Online Course – FAQs
Do I need this refresher if I already did SMSTS before?
Yes – the refresher is for people who’ve done the full 5-day course and need to keep their certificate valid. It’s a must if you want to stay current with CITB requirements and avoid having to redo the full thing.
What if my SMSTS certificate has just expired – can I still join?
Unfortunately, no. CITB is strict on this. If your certificate is out of date, even by a day, you’ll need to go back and complete the full 5-day SMSTS course again.
Is this course really done online? How does that work?
Yes, it’s fully online. You join live sessions with a trainer via Zoom or Teams – proper interactive classes, not just videos. You’ll still need to attend both days, and there’s an online exam at the end.
Is this course officially recognised by CITB?
Yes, absolutely. It’s a genuine CITB-approved course, and you’ll get a certificate that’s valid for another 5 years – same as the classroom version.
What do I need to take part?
Just a decent internet connection, a laptop or PC with a camera and mic, and access to the GE700 manual (either printed or digital). Oh, and you’ll need to be able to understand and speak English comfortably.
How many people are in each session?
We keep the numbers low – usually no more than 10 people – so everyone gets time to ask questions and get involved.
What topics are covered?
It’s mainly updates on health and safety laws, managing risk on site, and keeping your team safe. There’s also a good amount on leadership and communication.
What happens if I fail the exam?
Not the end of the world – you’ll usually get another go, depending on the trainer and CITB’s rules. Just try to pay attention during the course and ask if anything’s unclear.
Can I choose the days I do the course?
Yes, we offer flexible dates – sometimes over two full days, or split across shorter sessions over three or four days. Just ask us what’s available.
