What’s Taught in SMSTS Training Online?
If you take the SMSTS course online, you will receive the same standard of education as those taking the course in person. What’s more, you’ll learn the same syllabus, although some lessons will be adapted for online students.
At the end of the SMSTS online training course, you’ll receive the same Site Safety Plus certificate awarded to in-person students, which is accredited by the CITB and will be accepted throughout the UK.
You’ll learn a huge amount about construction site safety over the 5-day SMSTS remote course. Some of the topics you’ll cover include:

SMSTS – Site Management Safety Training Scheme Online Course – FAQs
How long does the SMSTS online course take?
The SMSTS online course takes 37.5 hours, which is spread over 5 consecutive days. If you can’t take that time off work, we also offer an online day release SMSTS course, which you’ll need to attend for one day a week for 5 weeks.
Can anyone take the SMSTS course?
Yes, anyone can take the SMSTS course. However, most people taking the course already have experience working on construction sites. In addition, most students are already managers or are looking to move up into a managerial role.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, you will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course. This certificate will be valid for 5 years. You will need to take a 2-day SMSTS refresher before the certificate expires to retain your qualification. We offer the SMSTS refresher online and in-person. If you don’t take a refresher before your certificate expires and then decide you want to get the qualification again, you’ll need to retake the entire 5-day course.
Is there an exam?
Yes, you will need to pass an exam at the end of the SMSTS online course to receive your SMSTS certificate. If you do not pass, we’ll work with you to help you pass when you retake the exam.
What do I need to take the course?
All you need is a computer with a microphone and webcam, access to the internet, and the GE700 manual. We can help you find the manual prior to your course starting. You should also be able to speak English to a reasonable standard.
