Why Fire Marshal Training is Vital

Fire can strike at any time, devastating buildings and causing huge danger to everyone within. Offices, retail units, warehouses – all can fall victim to fire, often without warning.

The key to staying safe in the event of a fire is training – having competent people on hand to organise an orderly evacuation. And that’s what our fire marshal training offers, using practical exercises to show how to deal with fire calmly and effectively, even when everyone else is panicking.

Fire Warden Training from Experts

We deliver our fire marshal training from a position of experience. Our instructors all have first-hand experience with fire and can use this experience to pass on vital information, supported by real-world examples you won’t find in a bland theory-led course or online training module.

Our instructors regularly review their knowledge to stay up to date with the latest rules, regulations, and best practices, so you always receive fire marshal training that meets today’s requirements.

Who Should Take This Course?

Our fire marshal training is suitable for a wide range of people, including:

  • Employees designated as fire marshals, looking to understand their role further.
  • Managers wanting to create a safer workplace environment by training staff members.

You can take our fire marshal training course at our Northamptonshire base or by attending one of the training sessions regularly held around the country. We can also visit businesses to deliver training to teams of employees.

What Will You Learn in Fire Marshal Training?

Our fire marshal course covers a wide range of subjects, ensuring students gain a rounded overview of their responsibilities and understand exactly how to look after their colleagues in the event of a fire.

Some aspects of our UK fire marshal training include:

  • Fire Marshal Responsibilities: We’ll let you know exactly what you need to do when fire strikes.
  • Practical Firefighting Tips: Learn how to tackle fires through practical demonstrations. Use various pieces of firefighting gear, including fire extinguishers, and learn how fire behaves.
  • UK Fire Regulations: We’ll introduce you to UK fire regulations, but don’t worry, we won’t bore you with endless information. Instead, we’ll apply the regulations to real-life scenarios.
  • Organising Evacuations: Learn how to plan and carry out evacuations, ensuring you’re not overwhelmed when the real thing happens.
  • Fire Prevention: Learn how to promote fire safety at work by spotting hazards and stopping fire before it starts.

UK Fire Marshalling Certification

The most important thing you’ll take away from our fire warden training course is knowledge. But you’ll also go home with something else – a fire marshal certificate, showing you’ve undertaken fire marshal training and can therefore assume responsibility in the case of fire in your workplace.

Fire Marshal Training Frequently Asked Questions

What does a fire marshal do?

A fire marshal is responsible for ensuring the safe evacuation of people from a workplace when the fire alarm sounds. They are also trained to spot hazards, such as blocked emergency exits, plus have basic training in fighting small fires with the appropriate equipment.

How long is the fire marshal certificate valid for?

Your fire marshal certificate is valid for three years. However, we recommend yearly refreshers to keep you sharp. We’ll remind you when it’s time to book in for your refresher course.

How long does the fire marshal course take?

Our fire marshal training is a half-day programme, meaning you’ll spend roughly four hours with us. During this time, you’ll get hands-on with various pieces of firefighting equipment before leaving with your fire marshal certificate.

Does my workplace really need a fire marshal?

Even workplaces deemed low risk, such as offices, need fire marshals. Fire can start anywhere, because of electrical malfunctions, discarded cigarettes, or even through deliberate actions.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 also states that a business must nominate a responsible person, who must then appoint competent individuals to manage fire safety measures. Fire marshal training can prove the competency of these individuals.

Can you help with our evacuation drills?

Yes, absolutely. Please select the Drill Support add-on, and we’ll attend your fire drill. We’ll observe the drill and provide notes, which you can act on and then place in your fire safety logbook.

Do you offer fire marshal training near me?

Most of our fire marshal training takes place at our facility in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. However, we also offer courses elsewhere in the country, plus we can come to your workplace to train teams of eight or more people.
