NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme)

Elevate Your Skills with NPORS Courses

Ever since 1992, NPORS has been raising the standard of machine safety and operation both nationally and internationally. Recognised by the Health and Safety Executive, NPORS ltd provide both the NPORS blue card and NPORS red card, which ensure that machine operators are both certified and competent. Each individual card clearly displays the categories of plant and assessments completed, so that an employer can easily and confidently maintain proof of a capable workforce, in full compliance with current legislation.

As one of the leading operator card schemes, the acronym NPORS meaning – ‘National Plant Operators Registration Scheme’ – is recognised as a mark of excellence in accreditation for plant operators across a wide variety of industries.

The NPORS National Plant Operators Registration Scheme has now become one of the UK’s leading construction plant card schemes working across the Construction, Industrial, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports and Marine sectors.

NPORS offers flexibility whilst maintaining standards both nationally and internationally by working closely with industry and Accredited Training Providers. The scheme offers accredited training much like CPCS and also offers registration and verification.

The NPORS scheme has now become a Build UK (formally UKCG) ‘accepted record scheme’, meaning that it is recognised as being equivalent to CPCS.
NPORS cards can also be CSCS embossed at request in the same way that CPCS cards are. This was done as part of a drive to bring all card schemes under a ‘one logo’ policy, making employers able to easily validate schemes and cards.

All NPORS training and assessments can be delivered at the client’s location enabling the training in an environment candidate feel comfortable in, this of course has the benefit of reducing downtime on site as candidates aren’t having to be released for examination purposes as they may need to with the CPCS alternative. We can also complete the training at our NPORS plant training facilities in Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire borders. We have an unrivalled spectrum of courses/categories under the NPORS accreditation and cover the whole of the UK.

With various categories available including (much more available):
NPORS Excavator 360 (Digger)
NPORS Forward Tipping Dumper (Dumper)
NPORS Telescopic Handler (Telehandler)
NPORS Ride on Roller (Roller)
NPORS Banksman
NPORS Loading Shovel
NOPRS Articulated Dump Truck

If you have any questions on your training needs and NPORS please give the team a call on:  01234604151

Whether you are looking for advice on the best route to take, if NPORS Digger or maybe an NPORS Telehandler is the better route for you, give us a call and we can discuss the options open to you and offer friendly, clear advice

What routes can I take under NPORS?

Traditional NPORS Route:
The NPORS traditional route is aimed for candidates that do not require a CSCS logo card. This will include a number of days training and then a theory and practical test. However, if you have the right experience, you may have the option of just completing the NPORS test only. When you have successfully completed the NPORS test, you will be entitled to the NPORS 5 year card.

NPORS CSCS Red Card Route:
To gain a NPORS CSCS Card you will have to undertake training and a test on the relevant machine you have chosen to use. This will include a number of days training and then a theory and practical test. However, if you have the right experience, you may have the option of just completing the NPORS test only. When you have successfully passed your test, you will be entitled to the NPORS CSCS card which is valid for 2 years.

NPORS CSCS Blue Card Route:
The NPORS CSCS Blue Card is the next step that you must take after completing your NPORS CSCS Red Card. The Red card is valid for 2 years, we recommend that you progress onto the Blue card route around the 18-month mark. (6 months before expiry) The NPORS Blue card is an NVQ process that will be completed on the site you are working on using the machine. Whilst on site the assessor with build a portfolio gathering evidence of you using the machine through Photographs, Videos and a professional discussion that will look at your experience using the machine.
Once completed the portfolio will be sent to be verified, once this has been completed you will be entitled to the 5 year NPORS CSCS Blue card. Need to know how to keep your 5 year card from expiry, give us a call!

How do I become an NPORS operator?

Delivered at a location convenient to you (even on site to save downtime), achieving an NPORS machine ticket couldn’t be easier. Simply enrol yourself or your team on an NPORS training course and a qualified instructor will provide all the specialist skills and knowledge needed to operate safely, efficiently and competently. Each course is tailored to your workplace needs and operator experience level with a wide variety of NPORS ticket categories available. During the course, the expert trainer will professionally explain and demonstrate each chosen plant machine type and ensure that you feel comfortable operating it in your workplace.

After successful completion of the practical and theory aspects of the course, each candidate will receive their NPORS operator card – sometimes referred to as an NPORS CSCS card – which identifies the categories completed and is easily validated by employers and public bodies.

How do I renew my NPORS card?

You may already be a CSCS NPORS operator and are likely aware that accreditation and good industry practice involves regular refresher training to ensure up-to-date knowledge and maintained standards. Many plant operators ask: ‘How can I renew my NPORS card?’

  There are 2 available options:

  • Submit a renewal notification form, signed by your employer to confirm your competence and accident-free use of the machinery during your employment
  • Complete refresher training for the chosen categories on your NPORS card. Recommended to ensure you are in-line with the latest industry standards, get the opportunity to benefit from a highly experienced and knowledgeable expert, and receive the peace of mind of independent accreditation.
