FAQs About Site Safety Plus Courses (East Midlands & UK-wide)

What’s the Site Safety Plus course all about?

It’s a set of health and safety training courses from CITB, mainly for people working in construction. It includes different levels – from basic site safety to more advanced stuff for supervisors and managers.

Do I need to have site experience to join?

Not always. For example, the Health and Safety Awareness course is good for new starters. But for courses like SSSTS or SMSTS, it’s better if you’ve already worked on a site or have some responsibility.

Is this training only for people in big cities?

Nope – not at all. We run courses right across the UK, and we do a lot in the East Midlands too – places like Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Lincoln, and Northampton. We also offer online options for some courses.

Is it a legal requirement to take one of these courses?

Not strictly – but many companies expect it. It’s become the industry standard, especially on bigger sites. If you want to move up the ladder or just get a foot in, having one of these can really help.

How long is the certificate valid?

Usually five years. After that, you’ll need to do a refresher course to keep it current and show you’re still up to speed with safety laws.

Can I take the course online?

Some of them, yes. CITB offers eCourses for Health and Safety Awareness and Temporary Works. Handy if you can’t get to a training centre or want to learn in your own time.

Which course should I go for – SSSTS or SMSTS?

If you’re supervising a team or thinking of becoming a supervisor, go for SSSTS (it’s a 2-day course). If you’re managing sites or aiming for site manager roles, the SMSTS (5 days) is better.

Will the Health and Safety Awareness course help me get my CSCS Green Card?

Yes, it’s one of the steps. Do the course, then pass the CITB HS&E test, and you can apply for the CSCS Labourer card.

How much does it cost?

Prices depend on the course and where you take it. We’ve got competitive rates for people in the East Midlands and across the UK. Give us a ring or check our booking page for current prices.

Are these courses recognised across the UK?

Yes – they’re CITB approved and widely accepted. If you work in construction or want to, this qualification is trusted by most employers.

Where can I take the course in the East Midlands?

We offer training in several locations – including Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, and Lincoln. If you’re based nearby, we’ll help you find the closest course date that suits you.

What people say about our construction courses?
