What Will You Learn on the Temporary Works Coordinator Course?

Our Temporary Works Coordinator course encompasses everything you need to know to safely and effectively coordinate temporary works, giving you a thorough education on the topic via both theory-based and practical classes.

Some of the most important topics you’ll learn about during your CITB Temporary Works Coordinator training include:

  • Your Roles and Responsibilities: Understand what exactly a Temporary Works Coordinator does and doesn’t do, both from a legal perspective and a practical viewpoint.
  • UK Regulations: There are plenty of rules and regulations to know about, such as BS5975, Work at Height, LOLER, and CDM. We’ll thoroughly explain them all, ensuring you understand them completely.
  • Understanding Paperwork: As with most jobs, paperwork is an unfortunate part of coordinating temporary works. Learn how to handle everything from permits to inspection records quickly, correctly, and confidently.
  • Risk Management Techniques: Learn how to identify and manage any risks on your site, ensuring the safety of workers and the public.
  • Effective Communication: Find out how to properly communicate with colleagues and stakeholders, minimising communication breakdowns.

Throughout the CITB Temporary Works Coordinator course, you won’t just be fed dry theory-based lessons. Instead, we ensure practical examples and exercises are regularly used to enhance the learning experience, ensuring everyone gets the most possible from our Temporary Works Coordinator training.

Temporary Works Coordinator Course FAQs

I’ve been dealing with temporary works for years – do I still need this course?

If you’re already doing it, this course just makes it official. It helps tie up what you know with the legal stuff – like BS 5975 and CDM – and shows clients you’re not just guessing your way through it. It can also make things easier when the paperwork gets serious.

Is it just PowerPoints and rules, or will I actually learn something useful?

We’re not into death-by-slide. It’s a mix of real examples, situations you’ve probably seen on site, and a bit of hands-on work. Most people say it flies by – and that the learning actually sticks.

I’m not technical – can I still take part?

Definitely. You don’t need to be an engineer or designer. If you’re the person on site making sure things get done properly – or you’re stepping into that role – this course should suit you well.

Do I get a certificate at the end?

Yes. Once you’ve completed the course and passed the short test, you’ll receive a CITB Temporary Works Coordinator certificate. It is valid for five years and accepted throughout the UK.

Will this help with jobs or tenders?

It can, yes. If you’re working with larger firms or on public contracts, they often expect this qualification to be in place. It shows that you’re serious about carrying out the role safely and correctly.

Can we get help with the cost through CITB?

If your company is registered with CITB, there’s a good chance you can claim some or all of the course fee back. We can also help with the paperwork if you’re unsure how the process works.

What’s the difference between the coordinator and the supervisor training?

The coordinator course is for the person planning and managing the full temporary works process. The supervisor course is more focused on day-to-day monitoring on site. If you’re responsible for approving the work, you’re likely in the right place with the coordinator course.

How much are we talking?

The price depends on where and how you book the course – whether face-to-face or online. We don’t do hidden fees. Get in touch and we’ll give you a clear full price.

Do you run this across the UK?

Yes – we offer training centres across the UK, and we can also run the course online if that’s more convenient. Wherever you’re based, we’ll aim to provide a suitable option.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. We’ll provide everything you need on the day. Just arrive ready to take part – and perhaps with a few site stories of your own.

Is the test difficult?

Honestly, if you’ve been paying attention, you should be absolutely fine. It’s multiple choice, open book, and not designed to catch you out. Most people pass without any issues.
