You must have good spoken and written English and wear personal protective equipment (boots, hard hat, gloves, hi-vis). If you want a CSCS-embossed NPORS card, you must also pass a valid CITB HS&E test within the last two years. A suitable machine and safe area are needed if the training takes place on your site.
After you pass the theory and practical tests, you will receive an NPORS operator card recognised across the UK. You can choose the traditional NPORS card or a CSCS-embossed NPORS card if you meet the HS&E criteria. Red “Trained Operator” cards are valid for 2 years. Blue “Competent Operator” cards are valid for 5 years once you complete an NVQ.

If you want a CSCS-logoed NPORS card, you must have a valid CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, or an approved alternative, completed within the last two years. If you do not yet have this, you may still be able to complete the training or assessment, but your card route may differ.
