We tailor the course length and content to your existing experience.
Our NPORS material re-handler training gives you the essential knowledge and practical skills to operate safely, efficiently and in line with current regulations.
You’ll begin with the basics: site rules, hazard awareness and your legal duties under LOLER and PUWER. You’ll learn how to read the manufacturer’s handbook, perform daily pre-start checks, and spot defects before they become a safety risk.
Next, you’ll build your operating skills. You’ll practise safe mounting and dismounting, starting and stopping the engine, using the controls to move and rotate the upper structure, and manoeuvring safely in tight spaces. You’ll also learn how to carry out work area safety checks, maintain stability on different surfaces, and communicate clearly with banksmen and ground staff.
Also practise swapping between different lifting attachments – such as clamshell grabs and sorting grapples – and learn how to load bulk materials safely into trucks or hoppers without over-spilling. Towards the end of the course, we’ll run through how to prepare the re-handler for transport: securing booms, isolating power, checking tie-down points, and finally parking and shutting down the machine so it’s clean, locked and ready for the next shift.
Our training is practical, relevant and led by instructors who’ve done the job themselves – so you learn what really matters on site.
