What this course covers
We focus on the job you actually do around live digs. Less theory, more practice, clear controls.

- Roles and responsibilities of the excavation marshall/banksperson
- Pre-excavation planning: service plans, permit-to-dig, safe dig principles and briefings
- Working with detection teams and CAT & Genny findings (HSG47 alignment)
- Signals and radio comms for excavators, dumpers and delivery vehicles
- Safe positions, exclusion zones, spotter lines and blind-spot control
- Plant–people separation, one-way routes and crossing points
- Edge protection, spoil heaps, access/egress and keeping the dig tidy

Certification & card routes
You’ll receive an NPORS N027 Excavation Marshall/Banksperson Operator Card. We can issue the NPORS Traditional Card or the NPORS/CSCS route (Red Trained Operator → Blue Competent Operator) when the usual requirements are met. Cards are typically valid for up to five years.
Entry requirements
Bring photo ID and a good level of English. Wear suitable PPE if we train on your site. No previous tickets are needed.
