You’ll start with the essentials: site safety rules, hazard awareness and your legal duties under LOLER, PUWER and Work at Height Regulations. You’ll learn to read and understand the manufacturer’s handbook, check the platform’s main components, and perform daily pre-use inspections to keep the machine safe to operate.
Next, you’ll practise real operating techniques. That includes safe mounting and dismounting, moving and positioning the MEWP boom, setting up safely on different surfaces, and using fall protection equipment correctly. You’ll also cover how to spot overhead hazards, avoid crushing risks, and maintain clear communication with ground staff or banksmen while working at height.
The course finishes with shutdown, parking and isolation procedures, plus how to prepare and secure the MEWP for transport between sites.
