What this course covers
We focus on the tasks you do every shift: accurate picking, tidy placement and steady travel.
Key skills you’ll build:
- Pre-use checks & defect reporting: forks/platform, guard rails, mast/carriage, hydraulics, wheels, alarms and lights.
- Stability & capacity: load centres, capacity plates, platform limits and safe lift heights.
- Picking techniques: approach, pallet positioning, product handling and secure placement.
- Man-up order picker specifics: gate discipline, anchor points, harness use and fall-restraint checks.
- Manoeuvring: narrow aisles, intersections, one-way systems and blind-spot control.
- Pedestrian separation: exclusion zones, horn discipline, look-ahead scanning and speed control.
- Battery care: safe charging, changeover, charging-bay rules and housekeeping.
- End-of-shift: parking, isolation, keys, defect notes and clean handover.

NPORS N005 Order Picker Course Entry requirements
Bring photo ID and be comfortable with spoken and written English. Wear suitable PPE on site. For man-up units, a body-worn harness is required; we cover checks and correct fitting.

What is the NPORS N005 Order Picker course?
Practical training for low, medium and high-level order pickers. You learn controlled picking at height, tidy placement and safe travel in busy aisles.
Who should take it?
Warehouse and e-commerce teams, retail DCs and manufacturing stores. It suits new operators, returning drivers and staff due a focused refresher.
Is this for man-up order pickers as well?
Yes. We cover man-up units, including gate discipline, anchor points, harness fitting and fall-restraint checks.
Do I need previous forklift experience?
Not required. We can start from zero. If you already drive FLTs, we’ll tailor the session to your level.
What will I learn in practice?
Pre-use checks, platform limits and capacity plates, accurate picking and placement, narrow-aisle manoeuvres, pedestrian separation and clean end-of-shift routines.
Do you cover battery charging and changeover?
Yes. We include safe charging, changeover, charging-bay rules and good housekeeping to protect people and equipment.
Is NPORS recognised by employers?
Yes. NPORS is widely accepted across UK warehousing, logistics and retail distribution. NPORS/CSCS routes are available where site access requires it.
How long is the NPORS N005 card valid?
The NPORS N005 Order Picker Operator Card is valid for three years.
What are the entry requirements?

Where fitted, yes. We align training to your equipment, guidance systems and site rules.
Can this link with other forklift courses?
Common pairings include Reach Truck (N003) for high racking and Narrow Aisle (N007) for very tight aisles. We can advise the best route.
Can my employer claim a grant?
If you’re CITB-registered, funding may apply. We’ll guide you through the claim.
