What this course covers
We focus on skills you’ll use every shift – accurate positioning, clear visibility and stable lifts.
Key skills you’ll build:
- Pre-use checks & defect reporting: forks, chains, mast/carriage, hydraulics, outrigger legs, load wheels, alarms and lights.
- Stability & capacity: load centres, capacity plates, the stability triangle, tilt and mast reach.
- Manoeuvring in narrow aisles: end-of-aisle exits, wrap-around turns, confined spaces and look-ahead scanning.
- Stacking & de-stacking at height: racking approach, fork levelling, pallet types (Euro/CHEP), clear view and safe retrieval.
- Double-deep & pantograph work (where fitted): fork extension control and rack alignment.
- Travel with/without load: gradients, reversing, braking distance, intersections and blind spots.
- Pedestrian separation: exclusion zones, horn discipline, crossing points and one-way systems.
- Battery care: safe charging, changeover, charging-bay rules and tidy housekeeping.
- End-of-shift: parking, isolation, keys, defect notes and handover.
If your truck has cameras or height selectors, we’ll align the practice to match your setup and SOPs.

What is the NPORS N003 Reach Truck course?
Practical training for safe reach forklift operation in narrow aisles and high racking. You’ll build control, visibility and confidence at height.
Who should take it?
Warehouse and logistics staff, retail DC teams and manufacturers using reach trucks. Suitable for new operators, returning drivers and refresher candidates.
Do I need prior forklift experience?
Not required. We can start from zero. If you already drive FLTs, we tailor the session to your level.
Is NPORS recognised by employers?
Yes. NPORS is widely accepted across warehousing, logistics and retail distribution. NPORS/CSCS routes are available where construction site access is required.
What will I learn in practice?
Pre-use inspections, stability and load centres, accurate racking approach, fork levelling, narrow-aisle manoeuvres, safe travel with and without a load, pedestrian separation and tidy end-of-shift routines.
Do you cover double-deep work and pantograph reach?
Yes. Where fitted, we include pantograph control, fork extension and alignment for double-deep racking.
What about batteries and charging?
We cover safe charging, changeover, charging-bay rules and good housekeeping. For LPG/diesel sites we include safe refuelling and isolation basics.
How long is the reach truck card valid?
The NPORS N003 Reach Truck Operator Card is valid for three years.
What are the entry requirements?
Photo ID and a good level of English. Wear suitable PPE if we train on your site.

Is there an assessment?
Yes – a practical drive plus a short knowledge check to confirm safe operation and racking work.
How does reach differ from counterbalance?
Reach trucks serve narrow aisles and high racking; the mast reaches into the rack. Counterbalance works in wider aisles and loads from the front.
Do you run evenings or weekends?
Yes. We schedule around shifts, including nights and weekends where needed.
Can my employer claim a grant?
If you’re CITB-registered, funding may apply. We’ll guide you through the claim process.
